What does it mean to be a doctor? Adding to the common meaning regarding medicine and other professions, the word ‘doctor’ has its root in the Latin word ‘docere’, meaning ‘teacher’. In essence, to be a doctor is to be a teacher. A teacher elevates, empower his or her students transmitting knowledge to stimulate growth and self-dependence. A medical doctor then, through his or her practice, should empower patients and promote self-dependence; always work in such a way so as to, eventually, not be needed.

What is Holistic Medicine? The word ‘holistic’ or ‘wholistic’ has its root in the Greek word ‘χολός:‘holos’, meaning whole or complete, and in the concept of ‘holism’ defined as the tendency in nature to form wholes that are greater than the sum of the parts. The practice of holistic medicine implies the consideration of every aspect of the human experience in relation to health and disease.

What is Integrative Medicine? The practice of integrative medicine implies the consideration or integration of every healing modality and discipline available and valid in addressing health and disease. To practice Holistic and Integrative Medicine is to bring into consideration all aspects of the patient’s life experience and all available healing modalities and disciplines which are best suited for said patient.
